Microscopic Evaluation

During a Microscopic Evaluation, we take a sample of your saliva and identify live samples of the bacterial activity through observation with a telescope. Under normal, healthy conditions, there will be an acceptable level of bacteria; such as rods, cocci, vibrios, white blood cells and a few red blood cells too. Compromised situations in our patient’s health will usually reveal a high level of bacterial activity. The bacteria, especially the rods and spirochetes, are those responsible for the bleeding and the destruction of your periodontal pockets, which is a local event occurring in response to a more serious systemic complication. We can then support you through a proper oral health care regimen plan.
